Welcome

Head of Corporate Finance and Commercial Services (Deputy s151 Officer).

Welcome and thank you for your interest in this exciting, high-profile role, which represents an exceptional opportunity to work within a nationally recognised, high-performing council, in a large and diverse county. We are the largest council in the North-East region and one of the largest upper tier local authorities nationally. With scale and connectivity, we are a centre for business, innovation and culture. We have an ambitious management team, and our members look to the future with optimism for our county.

We are looking for an innovative and forward-thinking leader to help drive our exciting agenda forward. The role will report directly to me and work closely with the Corporate Management Team, our elected Members, staff across the Council and our partners.

County Durham has breadth, scale and a proven track record of delivery - and the council’s future aspirations for our residents and communities are high. We are the largest economy in the region, and we are committed to playing a key role both regionally and nationally. Our commitment to reducing inequalities is even more important as we continue the recovery from COVID-19 and this will be crucial as we adapt and look to improve the lives of our residents.  We are also poised to benefit from the new North-East devolution deal. The deal, which is subject to relevant statutory orders being agreed following a governance review and public consultation, offers a potential £4.2bn of investment into the region.

We have a highly-regarded and high performing Corporate Finance Team, with a strong track record of delivery and our overall objective is to ensure that the best possible financial support is provided to help the council achieve its aims and objectives. We are seeking an experienced local government finance professional to provide the leadership required to ensure that we continue to deliver the best possible support to our colleagues and partners.

A proven track record in building and developing effective working relationships and the skills and personal qualities to thrive in a fast paced, commercial and diverse environment are essential.

Working together we will ensure that in County Durham we achieve our exciting vision for 2035 and build a better future for all.

I look forward to receiving your application to step into this unique and exciting role.
